The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:39 a.m. this day, in Room C-160, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Candice Hoeppner, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Josée Beaudin, Kelly Block, Hon. Rick Casson, Raymonde Folco, Candice Hoeppner, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Hon. Maria Minna, Michael John Savage, Maurice Vellacott and Jeff Watson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst. House of Commons: Graeme Truelove, Procedural Clerk.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of Yves Lessard, — That the Committee recommend that the government, if necessary, delay the next census to a later date so that it can be carried out in full compliance with the House of Commons decision of September 29, 2010, and that the Committee so report to the House at the earliest opportunity.

The debate continued.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Josée Beaudin, Raymonde Folco, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Maria Minna, Michael John Savage — 6; NAYS: Kelly Block, Rick Casson, Ed Komarnicki, Maurice Vellacott, Jeff Watson — 5.

 

Josée Beaudin moved, — That the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities recommend that the government immediately increase the base budget of Canada Summer Jobs so that it properly reflects changes that have occurred since 2006, and that this motion be reported to the House at the earliest opportunity.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Josée Beaudin, Raymonde Folco, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Maria Minna, Michael John Savage — 6; NAYS: Kelly Block, Rick Casson, Ed Komarnicki, Maurice Vellacott, Jeff Watson — 5.

 

At 12:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:15 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 7, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the impact of cancelling the long form census.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
