The Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan met in camera at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Garry Breitkreuz, Bob Dechert, Jean Dorion, Greg Kerr, Deepak Obhrai, Hon. Bob Rae and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Lois Brown for Hon. Laurie Hawn, Roger Gaudet for Claude Bachand, Martha Hall Findlay for Hon. Stéphane Dion and John Rafferty for Jack Harris.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of National Defence to appear before the end of February 2011 to respond to the motion adopted December 1, 2010.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee devote a meeting to hearing officials from CIDA concerning its future activities in Afghanistan.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee devote a meeting to hearing witnesses on mining.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee devote a meeting to hearing officials from the Correctional Service of Canada concerning corrections training in Afghanistan.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee devote a meeting to hearing officials from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police concerning police training in Afghanistan; and.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear Maria Barrados and witnesses from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities concerning governance and capacity building in developing countries.

 

At 4:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
