The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Robert Carrier, Olivia Chow, Norman Doyle, Nina Grewal, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Wajid Khan, Ed Komarnicki, Thierry St-Cyr and Hon. Andrew Telegdi.

 

Acting Members present: James Bezan for Dave Batters.

 

Associate Members present: Blair Wilson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Sandra Elgersma, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Richard Fadden, Deputy Minister; Andrea Lyon, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic and Program Policy; Les Linklater, Director General, Immigration Branch. As individuals: Joan Atkinson, Canada Public Service Agency; Daniel Jean, Associate Secretary, Senior Associate Secretary's Office, Treasury Board Secretariat.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, April 28, 2008, the Committee resumed its consideration of the subject matter of Part 6 of Bill C-50.
 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:41 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Richard Fadden, Andrea Lyon and Les Linklater answered questions.

 

At 6:18 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 6:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

On motion of Ed Komarnicki, it was agreed, — That the time required to deal with points of order not be deducted from the time of the member who has the floor.

 

Joan Atkinston and Daniel Jean made statements and answered questions.

 

At 7:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
