The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dave Batters, Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Robert Carrier, Olivia Chow, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Ed Komarnicki and Hon. Andrew Telegdi.

 

Acting Members present: Ken Epp for Nina Grewal, Hon. Shawn Murphy for Hon. Jim Karygiannis and Bradley R. Trost for Wajid Khan.

 

Other Members present: Raymonde Folco.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Sandra Elgersma, Analyst; Philippe Le Goff, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Wayne Ganim, Chief Financial Officer and Director General, Finance Branch; Richard Fadden, Deputy Minister; Claudette Deschênes, Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 22, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the Loss of Canadian Citizenship for the years 1947, 1977 and 2007.
 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted;

That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report;

That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report; and

That 250 copies of the report be printed in accordance with the policy established by the Board of Internal Economy in a tumble bilingual format.

 

At 3:55 p.m., the Committee resumed to sit in public.

 

On motion of Maurizio Bevilacqua, it was agreed, — That the report be entitled “Reclaiming Citizenship for Canadians: A Report on the Loss of Canadian Citizenship”.

 

At 4:08 p.m., the Committee resumed to sit in camera.

 

At 4:21 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2007-2008: Votes 1a, 2a and 10a under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION referred to the Committee on Tuesday, October 30, 2007.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

 

The Chair called Vote 1a under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION.

 

Vote 1a under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION carried.

 

The Chair called Vote 2a under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION.
