The Subcommittee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Ken Boshcoff and Carol Skelton.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Ruby Dhalla and Robert Vincent for Denise Poirier-Rivard.

 

In attendance: Parliamentary Information and Research Service: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 
The Clerk of the Subcommittee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Carol Skelton, it was agreed, — That Ken Boshcoff be elected Chair of the Subcommittee.

 

On motion of Robert Vincent, it was agreed, — That Carol Skelton be elected as Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee.

 
At 11:06 a.m., the Subcommittee proceeded in camera to discuss future business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee sit on Mondays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m..

 

It was agreed, — That the Minister of Social Development be invited to appear to discuss the Government Response to the report Accessibility For All adopted by the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

 

It was agreed, — That the Speaker of the House be invited to appear to discuss the report Accessibility For All adopted by the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee resume its study of the CPP Disability Benefits and invite a representative from the Office of Social Development Canada as well as the President or a representative of the Canadian Medical Association.

 

It was agreed, — That the following groups be invited in order to resume and complete the study on accessibility within the Federal Government for persons with disabilities: Canada Transportation Agency, Emergency Preparedness Canada, Service Canada and Industry Canada (Emerging Technologies).

 

It was agreed, — That the Canadian National Institute for the Blind be invited to appear to discuss the results of their study “The Needs of Persons in Canada who are Living with Vision Loss”.

 

It was agreed, — That the Canadian Council of Canadians with Disabilities be invited to discuss the UN Protocol on Persons with Disabilities.

 

At 11:34 a.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
