The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 8:33 a.m. this day, in the Regal Ballroom, Crowne Plaza Vancouver Hotel Georgia, Vancouver, British Columbia, the Chair, Marlene Catterall, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sarmite Bulte, Marlene Catterall, Marc Lemay and Gary Schellenberger.

 

Associate Members present: Libby Davies.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Joseph Jackson, Senior Analyst; Sam Banks, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Citizen's Coalition for the Protection of Canadian Films: Carl Bessai, Chairperson. Union of B.C. Performers: Howard Storey, President; Rob Morton, Treasurer, ACTRA - Vancouver; Mercedes Watson, Chief Executive Officer, ACTRA - Vancouver; Thom Tapley, Business Agent and Digital Media Advisor, ACTRA - Vancouver. British Columbia Film: Michael Francis, Chair, Board of Directors; Liz Shorten, Manager, Marketing and Communications; Lodi Butler, Manager, Film Financing. First Weekend Club: Anita Adams, Executive Director. Moving Pictures: Canadian Films on Tour: Sauching Ng, General Manager.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Canadian Feature Film Industry.
 

Carl Bessai made an opening statemetn and answered questions.

 

Howard Storey, Rob Morton, Mercedes Watson and Thom Tapley made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:12 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Michael Francis and Lodi Butler made statements and with Liz Shorten answered questions.

 

Anita Adams made a statement and answered questions.

 

Sauching Ng made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:29 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
