The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:39 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Finlay, Roger Gaudet, Beth Phinney and John Williams.

Acting Members present: Garry Breitkreuz for Val Meredith; Gerry Ritz for Paul Forseth; Myron Thompson for Philip Mayfield.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Analysts.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Jean Ste-Marie, Assistant Auditor General; Alan Gilmore, Principal; Gordon Stock, Director. From the Department of Justice: Gary Webster, Special Advisor to Deputy Minister. From the Department of Human Resources Development: Maryantonett Flumian, Associate Deputy Minister and Vice-Chairperson, Deputy Minister's Office.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 10 (Department of Justice - Costs of Implementing the Canadian Firearms Program) of the December 2002 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Monday, February 24, 2003, Meeting No. 16; Monday, March 17, 2003, Meeting No. 19; Wednesday, March 26, 2003, Meeting No. 22)

The witnesses answered questions.
