MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 1

Thursday, March 29, 2001

The Budget Sub-Committee of the Liaison Committee met in camera at 3:15 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, for the purpose of electing a chair pursuant to S.O. 107(2).

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Bill Graham, and John Williams.

Acting Member present: Bill Matthews for Wayne Easter.

In attendance: From the Committees and Parliamentary Associations Directorate: Andrew Chaplin, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans; Jim Latimer, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources; and Marie-Danielle Vachon, Clerk of the Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade; From Financial Services: Linda Biard, Financial Analyst.

By unanimous consent, Bill Graham was elected Chair of the Sub-Committee and took the chair.

At 3:16 p.m., the Sub-Committee considered committee budget requests pursuant to S.O. 107(1).

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources be granted an operational budget in the amount of $48,800.00 for the budget period of April 1st, 2001 to June 30, 2001 (fiscal year 2001-2002).

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans be granted a budget of $107,000 to travel to Halifax, NS; St. Alban's, Nfld; Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Que; Charlottetown, PEI; and Moncton, NB, from May 6 to 11, 2001, for its study of Aquaculture, Review of the Oceans Act, Oil and Gas Exploration and the Coast Guard.

It was agreed, - That the travel budget requests submitted by the Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade to travel Europe and by the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans to travel to Europe be stood.

At 3:32 p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
