Thursday, April 25, 2002
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, John Bryden, John Finlay, Sophia Leung, Philip Mayfield, Beth Phinney, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.
Acting Members present: Gérard Asselin for Odina Desrochers and Val Meredith for Rahim Jaffer.
Associate Member present: Val Meredith.
Other Member present: Joe McGuire.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Michael McLaughlin, Deputy Auditor General; Johanne Gélinas, Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development.
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee proceeded to consider the Order of Reference dated Tuesday, February 28, 2002 is as follows: Main Estimates 2002-2003: Vote 20 under FINANCE (Office of the Auditor General) and Part III - Report on Plans and Priorities relating to 2002-2003.
The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
Vote 20 under FINANCE carried.
ORDERED, - That the Chair report Vote 20 under FINANCE to the House as being the NINETEENTH REPORT of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
At 5:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 5:16 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 13 - Other Audit Observations (Parc Downsview Park Inc.) of the December 2001 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of April 9, 2001, meetings Nos. 46 and 47)
It was agreed, - That the motion of John Bryden, tabled and allowed to stand at the meeting held on Thursday, April 11, 2002, be considered.
It was agreed, - That this Committee recall the witnesses that appeared before the Public Accounts Committee on April 9, 2002.
At 5:27 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
