Tuesday, November 6, 2001

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, John Bryden, Odina Desrochers, John Finlay, Philip Mayfield, Shawn Murphy, Beth Phinney, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; John Wiersema, Assistant Auditor General; John Hodgins, Principal. From the Treasury Board Secretariat: Richard J. Neville, Deputy Comptroller General; John Morgan, Executive Director, Financial Management and Accounting Policy; Mike Joyce, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure and Management Strategies Sector. From the Department of Finance: Peter DeVries, Director, Fiscal Policy Division.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of the Public Accounts of Canada 2001. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, September 27, 2001, meeting No. 23)

Sheila Fraser from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada made a statement.

Richard Neville from the Treasury Board Secretariat made a statement.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 5:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned until Tuesday, November 20, 2001.
