The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:11 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Yvon Charbonneau, Stan Dromisky, Réal Ménard, Rob Merrifield, Stephen Owen, Hélène Scherrer, Judy Sgro, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier and Sonya Norris, research officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of Health: Dr. Donald Sutherland, Director, Bureau of HIV/AIDS, STD & TB, Center for Infectious Disease Prevention and Control; Farid G. Hindieh, M.D., Acting Head, Blood Components Section, Blood and Tissues Division; Dr. Peter Ganz, Manager, Blood and Tissues Division. From Canadian Blood Services: Dr. Graham Sher, Vice-President, Medical, Scientific and Clinical Management; Lynda Cranston, Chief Executive Officer. From "Héma Québec": Mr. Marc Germain. From the University of Toronto: Dr. Robert Remis, Associate Professor, Department of Public Health Sciences. The Committee resumed its examination of the relation of certain donor exclusion policies to the safety of the Canadian Blood Supply. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, March 29, 2001.)
