MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 5

Thursday, March 22, 2001

The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Bonnie Brown, Jeannot Castonguay, Yvon Charbonneau, Stan Dromisky, James Lunney, Réal Ménard, Rob Merrifield, Stephen Owen, Hélène Scherrer, Judy Sgro, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Members present: Carole-Marie Allard for Ray Bonin.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier and Sonya Norris, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 108(1) and (2), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters relating to its future business.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, - That the requirement for 48 hours' notice before consideration of any substantive motion be waived to permit consideration of a motion by Mr. Charbonneau.

Yvon Charbonneau moved, - That the Committee schedule an appearance by officials from the Auditor General's Office on March 27, 2001; hearings with respect to regulations prohibiting donations of blood by homosexual persons on March 29 and April 3, 2001; a hearing with respect to food safety and possible risks to human health arising therefrom on March 28 or April 4, 2001; an appearance, on April 5, 2001, by officials from Health Canada for consideration of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2002.

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the motion and it was, by a show of hands, agreed to: YEAS: 8; NAYS: 2.

At 12:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
