The Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met in a televised session at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Peter Adams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Pierre Brien, Cheryl Gallant, Yvon Godin, Michel Guimond, Jay Hill, Joe Jordan and Tony Tirabassi.

Acting Members present: Alan Tonks for Marlene Catterall; David Price for Paul Macklin; Rodger Cuzner for Carolyn Parrish; Raymond Lavigne for Geoff Regan; Beth Phinney for John Richardson; Mauril Bélanger for Jacques Saada; Leon Benoit for Garry Breitkreuz; Vic Toews for Randy White.

Other Members present: Elsie Wayne; Michel Bellehumeur.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Robertson, research officer.

Witness: From the Department of National Defence: Jim Judd, Deputy Minister.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference from the House of Thursday, February 7, 2002, the Committee resumed consideration of the question of privilege raised on January 31, 2002 by the Member for Portage--Lisgar concerning the charge against the Minister of National Defence of making misleading statements in the House (see Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, February 7, 2002, Meeting No. 43).

The witness answered questions.

Yvon Godin gave notice of the following motion:

That Claude Laverdure, Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister and Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet on Foreign Affairs and Defence Policy be called as a witness to the Procedure and House Affairs Committee.

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
