Thursday, February 21, 2002

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:15 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Yvon Charbonneau, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Joe Fontana, Anita Neville, Lynne Yelich.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin; Margaret Young, Researchers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) – the Committee resumed its review of Regulations under the new Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Chamber of Commerce:  Benjamin J. Trister, Chair, Immigration Law and Policy Task Force, Nancy Hughes Anthony, President and Chief Executive Officer. From the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters:  Mark Boudreau, Senior Director, Policy and Research; Margot Booth, Director, Policy Communications and Research. From the International Association of Immigration Practitioners:  Ramesh K. Dheer, National President. From the Senate:  Hon. Anne C. Cools, Senator. From the House of Commons:  Roger Gallaway, Sarnia--Lambton.

Nancy Hughes Anthony made an opening statement and with Benjamin J. Trister answered questions.

Mark Boudreau and Margot Booth made an opening statement and answered questions.

Ramesh K. Dheer made an opening statement and answered questions.

Senator Anne C. Cools made an opening statement and answered questions.

Roger Gallaway made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 11:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
