MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 6

Thursday, March 22, 2001

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Gérard Binet, Serge Cardin, Jean-Guy Carignan, David Chatters, Rodger Cuzner, John Finlay, John Godfrey, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, , Benoît Serré, Guy St-Julien.

Acting Member present: Claude Duplain for Jean-Guy Carignan.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages and Mary Hurley, Research Officers. From the Legislative Unit, Committees Branch: Susan Baldwin and Phillipe Méla, Legislative Clerks.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, February 16, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-3, An Act to amend the Eldorado Nuclear Limited Reorganization and Divestiture Act and the Petro-Canada Public Participation Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, March 20, 2001, Meeting No. 5).

The Committee proceeded to Clause-by-Clause consideration of the Bill.

Clause 1 carrried.

Clause 2 carried.

The Title carried.

The Bill carried.

ORDERED, -- That the Chair report Bill C-3 without amendments to the House as the Second Report of the Committee.

The Committee discussed future business.

It was agreed, - That representatives from the Chisasibi Cree Nation be invited to appear before the Committee on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 on the subject of the housing crisis in the Cree community of Chisasibi (James Bay, Quebec).

It was agreed, - That representatives from Inuit Tapirisat Canada and the Assembly of First Nations be invited to appear before the Committee on Thursday, March 29, 2001 on the subject of the crisis in Aboriginal housing.

It was agreed, That representatives from the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Health Canada be invited to appear before the Committee on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 on the subject of the crisis in Aboriginal Housing.

It was agreed, - That the Committee endeavour to hold a briefing session on climate change and the proposed North American energy policy development on Thursday, April 5, 2001.

At 11:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
