Meeting No. 5

Wednesday, February 9, 2000

The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, Sarmite Bulte, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Sarmite Bulte, Murray Calder, Richard Marceau, Deepak Obhrai, Alex Shepherd, Bob Speller.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg and Daniel Dupras, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Bertin Côté, Assistant Deputy Minister, Europe, Middle East and North Africa; Claude Carrière, Director General, General Trade Policy Bureau. From Statistics Canada: David Dodds, Director, International Trade Division. From the Department of Finance: Terry Collins-Williams, Director, International Trade Policy Division.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) a briefing on Canada-Europe economic relations.

Bob Speller moved, - That the Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment undertake a study on Canada's economic relations with Europe.

Bob Speller moved, - That 8 members and 2 staff of the Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment be authorised to travel to London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Brussels and Geneva from May 1 - 12, 2000, in relation to the study on Canada's economic relations with Europe.
