Tuesday, February 8, 2000

The Standing Committee on Industry met in a videoconference session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Antoine Dubé, Jim Jones, Walt Lastewka, Gurbax Malhi, Ian Murray, Charlie Penson, Jerry Pickard and Susan Whelan.

Acting Member present: Dan McTeague for Brenda Chamberlain.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Daniel Shaw, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the University of British Columbia: Dr. John Helliwell, Professor of Economics; Dr. Jonathan R. Kesselman, Professor and Director, Centre for Research on Economic and Social Policy. From the Simon Fraser University: Dr. Richard Harris, Professor of Economics.

Pursuant to the Committee's mandate under Standing Order 108(2), a study concerning Productivity, Innovation and Competitiveness.

From Vancouver the witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 5:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
