Meeting No. 5

Thursday, April 22, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Tax Equity for Canadian Families with Dependent Children of the Standing Committee on Finance met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Nick Discepola, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Serge Cardin, Nick Discepola, Michelle Dockrill, John Herron and Paul Szabo.

Acting Members present: Marlene Jennings for Rey Pagtakhan; Gerry Ritz for Paul Forseth.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Marion Wrobel.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Child Advocacy Association: Maryann Bird, Director; Jamie Kass, Member. From the Canadian Labour Congress: Andrew Jackson, Senior Economist, Social and Economic Policy; Nancy Riche, Executive Vice-President. From the Ottawa-Carleton Child Poverty Action Group: Lynn Sherwood, President. As Individual: Sylvie Brin.

Pursuant to the motion adopted by the Standing Committee on Finance, dated March 17, 1999, the Sub-Committee resumed its study on Tax Fairness for Canadian Families.

Maryann Bird made a statement and with the other witness from the Canadian Child Advocacy Association, answered questions.

Nancy Riche made a statement and, with the other witness from the Canadian Labour Congress, answered questions.

Lynn Sherwood from the Ottawa-Carleton Child Poverty Action Group and Sylvie Brin each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:39 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
