Tuesday, December 9, 1997
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:34 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: André Bachand, Sue Barnes, Odina Desrochers, Mac Harb, Gurmant Grewal, Ivan Grose, René Laurin, Steve Mahoney, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers, Andrew Telegdi and John Williams.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Secretariat of the Treasury Board: Colin Potts, Deputy Comptroller General; Rick Neville, Assistant Secretary and Assistant Comptroller General. From the Office of the Auditor General : Raymond Dubois, Deputy Auditor General; Ron Thompson, Assistant Auditor General.
The Committee resumed consideration of the Draft Report on Chapter 17 of the April and October 1997 Report of the Auditor General (Human Resources Development Canada – A Critical Transition toward Results-Based Management) (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, October 21, 1997, Meeting No. 3).
On motion of Mac Harb, it was agreed, - That the Draft Report be concurred in and that the Chair present the Report to the House.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the Public Accounts of Canada 1997, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, October 28, 1997.
The witnesses made opening statements.
It was agreed, - That the opening statement of Ron Thompson be taken as read in its entirety.
The witnesses answered questions.
It was agreed, - That the Sub-committee on Agenda and Procedure meet tomorrow at 3:30 o'clock p.m. and that the Committee meeting of tomorrow afternoon begin at 4:00 o'clock p.m.
At 5:32 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
