MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
(Meeting No. 33)

Thursday, May 14, 1998

The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met in camera at 11:05 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 269, West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, Gerry Byrne, David Chatters, Roy Cullen, Yvon Godin, Jim Gouk, Ovid L. Jackson, Jerry Pickard, Carmen Provenzano, and Brent St. Denis.

Substitute Members present: Ken Epp for Darrel Stinson, Jim Jones for Gilles Bernier, M. Sophia Leung for Bob Wood, Yvan Loubier for Pierre de Savoye, Bryon Wilfert for Ben Serré.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament
: Jean-Luc Bourdages and Jack Stilborn, Research Officers.

The Committee discussed its future business.

It was agreed — That the Committee reimburse the Chair, up to a maximum of $51.26, for the purchase of official gifts given to the hosts of the events surrounding Forest Expo '98.

It was agreed — That 48 hours written notice shall be given for the consideration of any substantive motion by the Committee; provided that notice may be waived by the unanimous consent of the Committee. This rule shall not apply for motions to amend a clause during the study of a bill. Such notice shall be tabled with the Committee by filing the text of the motion with the Clerk of the Committee and shall be distributed to all members in both official languages. Upon receipt of such notice the Clerk will ensure that the motion is placed on the agenda of the next Committee meeting.

It was moved — That the motion adopted by the Committee on April 23, 1998, concerning the study of the operations of DEVCO be rescinded.

And debate arising thereon;

A request having been made for a recorded vote in the Committee’s Minutes of Proceeding, it was agreed to.

The motion was agreed to on the following division:

YEAS: – Bélair – Byrne – Cullen – Jackson – Pickard – Provenzano – Wilfert – 7

NAYS: – Chatters – Epp – Godin – Gouk – Jones – Loubier – 6

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(3), consideration of a request signed by four Members of the Committee.

At 12:15 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
