Thursday, March 26, 1998

The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 11:05 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 269, West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, Gilles Bernier, David Chatters, Yvon Godin, Ovid L. Jackson, Darrel Stinson and Brent St. Denis.

Substitute Members present: René Canuel for Pierre de Savoye.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament
: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Wood Council: Kelly McCloskey, President. From Forintek: Dr. Ian de la Roche, President & Chief Executive Officer. From the Canadian Pulp & Paper Association: David Barron, Vice-President. From the Pulp & Paper Research Institute of Canada (PAPRICAN): Dr. Ron Crotogino, Director of Research, Engineering. From the Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada: Daniel Guimier, Vice-President, Eastern Region.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of knowledge and technology based industries in the Natural Resources Sector.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 12:10 o’clock p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:20 o’clock p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 1:15 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
