Thursday, APRIL 23, 1998
The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:42 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Shaughnessy Cohen, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Shaughnessy Cohen, Paul DeVillers, Sheila Finestone, Paul E. Forseth, Derek Lee, Peter G. MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay.
Acting Members present: Chuck Cadman for Garry Breitkreuz.
In attendance: : From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst, Marilyn Pilon, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Office of the Correctional Investigator: Ron Stewart, Correctional Investigator; Jim Hayes, Director; Todd Sloan, Legal Counsel; Jo-Ann Connolly, Investigator.
The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference of Thursday, February 26, 1998, relating to the Main Estimates for 1998-99 (See Minutes of Proceedings of Monday, April 20, 1998, Meeting No. 50).
By unanimous consent, the Chair called Vote 30 under SOLICITOR GENERAL.
Ron Stewart made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:46 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
