The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:32 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Raymonde Folco, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Raymonde Folco, Pat Martin, John McKay, Grant McNally, Réal Ménard, Rey Pagtakhan and Andrew Telegdi.

Acting Members present: Ian Murray for Mark Assad; John Bryden and Ian Murray for Steve Mahoney; Stephane Bergeron for Jocelyne Girard-Bujold; Eric Lowther for Jack Ramsay.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the "Société St.Jean-Baptiste de Montréal": Guy Bouthillier, President; Robin Philpot, Director, Communications. Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated March 1, 1999, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-63, An Act respecting Canadian citizenship. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, March 3, 1999, Meeting No. 50)

The Committee resumed consideration of Clause 2.

Robin Philpot and Guy Bouthillier from the "Société St. Jean-Baptiste" made statements and answered questions.

At 10:50 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:46 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Sungee John from the Windsor Women Working With Immigrant Women made a statement and answered questions.

Myrta Rivera from the Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre made a statement and answered questions.

Peter Jervis and Ian Benson made statements and answered questions.

At 1:14 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
