MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

(Meeting No. 35)

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, 1998

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera at 3:34 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, Stan Dromisky, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Norman Doyle, Stan Dromisky, Raymonde Folco, Sophia Leung, Steve Mahoney, Grant McNally, Réal Ménard, Maria Minna, Deepak Obhrai, John Reynolds and Jacques Saada.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of Recommendation 155 of the Report of the Legislative Review Advisory Group entitled "Not just Numbers: A Canadian Framework for Future Immigration", particularly issues relating to removal and detention. (See Minutes of Proceeding of Wednesday, February 18, 1998, Meeting No. 10.)

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

It was agreed, -- That the Draft Report, as amended, be concurred in.

It was agreed, -- That the Chair make such editorial changes as may be necessary.

It was agreed, -- That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request the government to table a comprehensive response to the report.

It was agreed, -- That the Committee print 200 copies of the Report.

It was agreed, -- That the Report be printed in tumble format.

It was agreed, -- That the Committee authorize the printing of dissenting opinions as an appendix to this report, immediately following the signature of the Chair.

ORDERED, -- That the Chair be authorized to table the Report as the First Report to the House.

At 4:20 o'clock p.m., it was agreed, - That the meeting continue in public session.

At 4:25 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
