Tuesday, June 2, 1998
The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera at 3:34 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, Stan Dromisky, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Sarmite Bulte, Stan Dromisky, Raymonde Folco, Sophia Leung, Steve Mahoney, John N. McKay, Réal Ménard, Maria Minna, Deepak Obhrai, John Reynolds and Jacques Saada.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of Recommendation 155 of the Report of the Legislative Review Advisory Group entitled "Not just Numbers: A Canadian Framework for Future Immigration", particularly issues relating to removal and detention. (See Minutes of Proceeding of Wednesday, February 18, 1998, Meeting No. 10.)
It was agreed, - That a budget in the amount of $6,357.41 to allow the Chair of the Committee to visit Canadian and national immigration offices in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Thailand and Thai refugee camps be adopted for submission to the Liaison Committee.
The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.
At 5:24 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
