GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The House resumed debate on the motion of Mr. Axworthy (Minister of Human Resources Development and Minister of Western Economic Diversification), seconded by Mr. Martin (Minister of Finance), -- That the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development be directed to consult broadly, to analyze, and to make recommendations regarding the modernization and restructuring of Canada's social security system, with particular reference to the needs of families with children, youth and working age adults;

That the Standing Committee's work be undertaken in two phases as follows: (i) an interim report by March 25, 1994, on Canadians' concerns and priorities regarding social security and training and preparations to receive the Government's Action Plan and proposed changes; and (ii) a final report by September 30, 1994, including a review of the Government's Action Plan and recommendations for reform. (Government Business No. 4)


By unanimous consent, it was ordered, -- That the House continue to sit through the lunch hour for the purpose of continuing debate on the motion of Mr. Axworthy (Minister of Human Resources Development and Minister of Western Economic Diversification), seconded by Mr. Martin (Minister of Finance).
