The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 1:00 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Paulina Ayala, Lois Brown, Bob Dechert, Paul Dewar, Peter Goldring, Nina Grewal, Hélène Laverdière, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Marc-André Morin, Gary Ralph Schellenberger and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Associate Members present: Deepak Obhrai.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Embassy of Canada to Libya: H. E. Sandra McCardell, Ambassador. Canadian International Development Agency: Stephen Salewicz, Director, International Humanitarian Assistance Division; Philip Baker, Acting Regional Director General, Southern and Eastern Africa; Sean M. Boyd, Acting Regional Director General, Europe, Middle East and Maghreb. Department of National Defence: Jonathan Vance, Director of Staff, Strategic Joint Staff; Mike Hood, Deputy Director General, International Security Policy; Blaise Cathcart, Judge Advocate General.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the situation in Libya.
 

Sandra McCardell, Stephen Salewicz and Jonathan Vance made a statement and, with Mike Hood, answered questions.

 

At 2:24 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:31 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the situation in Somalia.
 

Stephen Salewicz made a statement and, with Philip Baker, answered questions.

 

At 2:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
