The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 3:42 p.m. this day, in Room C-180, 1 Wellington Street, the Vice-Chair, John Cannis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, John Cannis, Ed Holder, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, Jean-Yves Laforest, Lee Richardson, Mario Silva and Brad Trost.

Acting Members present: Peter Braid for Ron Cannan, Nicolas Dufour for Claude Guimond and Hon. Shawn Murphy for Martha Hall Findlay.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst ; Simon Lapointe, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Steve Verheul, Chief Trade Negotiator, Canada-European Union; John Kur, Director General, Europe and Eurasia Bureau. Canada Europe Roundtable for Business: Jason Langrish, Executive Director. European Economic and Social Committee: Sandy Boyle, President, International Relations Section; Jean-François Bence, Director, Consultative Works; Rose D'Sa, Member of the Committee; José Isaías Rodríguez García-Caro, Member of the Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of free trade between Canada and the European Union.

At 3:43 p.m., Lee Richardson took the Chair.

Steve Verheul made a statement and, with John Kur, answered questions.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Jason Langrish made a statement and answered questions.

Sandy Boyle made a statement and, with Jean-François Bence, Rose D'Sa and José Isaías, answered questions.

At 5:44 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
