The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, Larry Miller, Blake Richards, Bev Shipley and Brian Storseth.

 

Acting Members present: Joyce Murray for Francis Valeriote and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac for France Bonsant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Aïcha Coulibaly; Frédéric Forge; Mathieu Frigon.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budgets for the Committee's travel in relation to its study on young farmers and the future of farming be amended by reducing the number of participating members from twelve(12) to eight(8).

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed amended budget in the amount of $132,361, for the Committee’s travel to British Colombia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba in the spring 2010 in relation to its study on young farmers and the future of farming be adopted, and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed amended budget in the amount of $50,062, for the Committee’s travel to Ontario in the spring 2010 in relation to its study on young farmers and the future of farming be adopted, and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed amended budget in the amount of $86,969, for the Committee’s travel to Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in the spring 2010 in relation to its study on young farmers and the future of farming be adopted, and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 15, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of competitiveness of Canadian agriculture.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
