The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met by videoconference at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, France Bonsant, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, Larry Miller, Blake Richards, Bev Shipley, Brian Storseth and Francis Valeriote.

 

Acting Members present: Blaine Calkins for Blake Richards.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canola Council of Canada: Jim Everson, Vice-President, Corporate Affairs. Grain Growers of Canada: Stephen Vandervalk, President; Richard Phillips, Executive Director. Canadian Canola Growers Association: Richard White, General Manager.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the biotechnology industry.
 

Jim Everson, Stephen Vandervalk and Richard Phillips made statements and answered questions.

 

Richard White, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba, made a statement and answered questions.

 

Randy Hoback moved, — That the Standing Committee on Agriculture & Agri-food request the presence of representatives from the Canadian Wheat Board, including the CEO and the Chair, to testify with regards to their recent acquisition of two new lake vessels as part of a larger purchase by Algoma and Upper Lakes.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
