The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, France Bonsant, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, Larry Miller, Bev Shipley, Brian Storseth and Francis Valeriote.

 

Acting Members present: David Anderson for Blake Richards and Bruce Stanton for Pierre Lemieux.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Greg Meredith, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy Branch; Rita Moritz, Assistant Deputy Minister, Farm Financial Programs Branch; Danny Foster, Director General, Business Risk Management Program Development, Farm Financial Programs Branch; Jody Aylard, Director General, Finance and Renewal Programs Directorate, Farm Financial Programs Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of Program Review.
 

Greg Meredith and Rita Moritz made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Wayne Easter, it was agreed, — That the Committee adopt a budget of $9,500 for its study on Agriculture Disaster Relief Programs.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee authorize certain Members of the Committee to travel across Canada during the month of February 2011 as part of the Committee’s study on the status of the Canadian biotechnology sector; and that the clerk of the Committee, in consultation with the Chair and Members, be instructed to prepare a draft budget for consideration by the Committee as soon as possible.

 

At 10:50 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
