The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: André Arthur, Hon. Scott Brison, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Colin Carrie, Paul Crête, Hon. Dan McTeague, James Rajotte, Bev Shipley, Dave Van Kesteren and Robert Vincent.

 

Acting Members present: Charlie Angus for Brian Masse, Joe Comartin for Brian Masse and Massimo Pacetti for Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Shaw Communications Inc.: Jean Brazeau, Vice-President, Telecommunications. Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc.: Ted Chislett, President and Chief Operating Officer. Rogers Communications Inc.: Kenneth Engelhart, Vice-President, Regulatory. Vidéotron Ltée: Luc Lavoie, Executive Vice-President , Corporate Affairs, Quebecor Inc.. COGECO Inc.: Yves Mayrand, Vice-President, Corporate Affairs. Vonage Canada Corp.: Joe Parent, Vice-President, Marketing and Business Development. MTS Allstream Inc.: Chris Peirce, Chief Regulatory Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the deregulation of telecommunications.
 

The witnesses on Panel 1 - Cable Television Companies made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The witnesses on Panel 2 - CLEC (Competitive Local Exchange Carriers) made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:33 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee consider matters related to Committee business after hearing the witnesses on Monday, February 12, 2007.

 

At 6:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
