The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: André Arthur, Colin Carrie, Paul Crête, Hon. Jean C. Lapierre, Brian Masse, Hon. Dan McTeague, James Rajotte, Bev Shipley, Dave Van Kesteren and Robert Vincent.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua for Susan Kadis and Hon. Scott Brison for Hon. Jean C. Lapierre.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the deregulation of telecommunications.
 

Paul Crête moved, — That the Committee invite the Minister to explain as soon as possible his decision to disregard the motion adopted by the Committee on October 26, 2006; that the Committee conduct an in-depth study of the issue of deregulating telecommunications; and that the Committee report back to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Bev Shipley moved, — That the motion be amended by deleting all the words after “October 26, 2006”.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 6.

 

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of Paul Crête, — That the Committee invite the Minister to explain as soon as possible his decision to disregard the motion adopted by the Committee on October 26, 2006; that the Committee conduct an in-depth study of the issue of deregulating telecommunications; and that the Committee report back to the House.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Scott Brison, Paul Crête, Brian Masse, Dan McTeague, Robert Vincent — 6; NAYS: André Arthur, Colin Carrie, Bev Shipley, Dave Van Kesteren — 4.

 

It was agreed, — That on Wednesday, January 31, 2007, after the Committee has completed its consideration of its draft report, the Committee consider in camera which witnesses to invite in relation to its study of the deregulation of telecommunications.

 

At 4:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
