The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, James Bezan, Barry Devolin, Hon. Wayne Easter, Jacques Gourde, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Larry Miller and Paul Steckle.

 

Acting Members present: Louis Plamondon for Roger Gaudet, Pablo Rodriguez for Ken Boshcoff and Bev Shipley for David Anderson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Food Inspection Agency: André Gravel, Executive Vice-President; Krista L. Mountjoy, Vice-President, Programs; Brian Evans, Chief Veterinary Officer ; Gordon R. White, Vice-President, Finance, Administration and Information Technology.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee resumed consideration of the Main Estimates 2007-2008: Votes 30, 35 under AGRICULTURE AND AGRI-FOOD referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 27, 2007.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

On motion of Wayne Easter, it was agreed, — That, the Committee move to future business and that it sits in-camera.

 

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:14 p.m., the sitting resumed in-camera.

 

The Committee agreed on the following agenda :

May 8th, 9th and 10th: meetings on the Agricultural Policy Framework;

May 14th to 16th: Fact-Finding Mission to Washington D.C.;

May 17th: Information meeting on Trade and safeguards measures;

May 29 to 31: Draft Report Consideration;

June 5th: Family Farms Option Programs

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 27755, for the Committee’s travel to Washington D.C. from May 14th to 16th be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
