The Legislative Committee on Bill C-17 met in a televised session at 3:59 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Bob Kilger, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Sarkis Assadourian, Claude Bachand, Rex Barnes, Robert Bertrand, Ailleen Carroll, Rahim Jaffer, Bob Kilger, Steve Mahoney, Lynn Myers, John O'Reilly, Peter Stoffer.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: David R. Goetz, Margaret Young, Analysts.
Appearing: The Hon. John McCallum, Minister of National Defence; The Hon. Elinor Caplan, Minister of National Revenue.
Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Colonel Dominic McAlea, Deputy Legal Advisor (Military), Office of the National Defence and Canadian Forces Legal Advisor; Colonel Robert Leitch, Commander, Canadian Forces Information Operations Group. From the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency: Andrea Spry, Director, Risk Assessment Systems Division, Customs Branch; Mary Anne McMahon, Senior Counsel, Legal Services.
The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-17, Public Safety Act 2002.
The Minister of National Defence made a statement and, with the witnesses from the Department of National Defence, answered questions.
At 4:59 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 5:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.
The Minister of National Revenue made a statement and, with the witnesses from the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, answered questions.
At 5:13 p.m., Robert Bertrand took the Chair.
At 5:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
