Context
On January 30, 2017, Jenny Kwan (Vancouver East) rose in the House to request that an emergency debate be held, pursuant to Standing Order 52, on the effects of the United States’ travel ban on immigration and travel from seven countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Ms. Kwan also asked that the debate take place the following day to allow members to attend memorial events that evening.[1]
Resolution
The Speaker ruled immediately. He advised the House that he accepted the request for the emergency debate to be held at the ordinary hour of daily adjournment the following day.
Decision of the Chair
The Speaker: I thank the hon. member for raising her request for an emergency debate. I am prepared to grant her request, and pursuant to Standing Order 52(9), I am happy to have the debate begin at the ordinary hour of daily adjournment tomorrow.
