The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:37 o'clock p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Benoît Serré, presiding.
Members of the Committee present:
Representing the Senate: Maurice Riel, Jean-Claude Rivest and Louis J. Robichaud.
Representing the House of Commons: Warren Allmand, Cliff Breitkreuz, Jean-Paul Marchand, Benoît Serré and Georgette Sheridan.
In attendance: From the Committees Directorate of the Senate: Tonu Onu, Joint Clerk of the Committee. From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Research Officer.
Witnesses: As an individual: The Honourable Lloyd Francis. From ``Mouvement Impératif Français'': Jean-Paul Perrault, President. From Outaouais Alliance: Graham Graig, Chairman of the Board of Directors; Lisa Bishop, Executive Director.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(4)(b), the Committee continued its study on the application of the Official Languages Act in the National Capital Region (See Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence, dated Tuesday, November 19, 1996, Issue No. 10).
Honourable Lloyd Francis, Jean-Paul Perrault, Graham Graig and Lisa Bishop made statements and answered questions.
At 5:20 o'clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
