Blockades at Canada’s Border Crossings Impacting Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food Industries

Ottawa, February 15, 2022 -

Noting its concern over the effect that illegal border blockades are having on the Canadian agriculture and agri-food industries, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food adopted a motion calling for an immediate end to these actions at Canadian border crossings.

The motion, which received the unanimous consent of the committee, notes that millions of dollars’ worth of trade travels across the U.S.-Canadian border daily and asks for action at all levels of government to help keep these crossings open.

The committee is currently studying Canada’s agricultural and agri-food supply chain and has heard directly from sector representatives about the effect border blockades are having on farmers, including concerns over the availability of animal feed and other essential supplies.
