Pursuant to the order of reference of Tuesday, May 26, 2020, Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, June 1, 2020, the committee resumed its study of the impacts of COVID-19 on fishing industry stakeholders.

Christina Burridge, Martin Mallet and Keith Sullivan made statements and answered questions.

At 3:56 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Fred Helmer, Owen Bird, Martin Paish and Osborne Burke made statements and answered questions.

At 5:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:01 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was moved, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $1,500, for the study of the state of the Pacific salmon and that a proposed budget in the amount of $2,250 for the study of Impacts of COVID-19 on fishing industry stakeholders, be adopted.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Jaime Battiste, Terry Beech, Serge Cormier, Ken Hardie, Robert J. Morrissey, Mel Arnold, Richard Bragdon, Blaine Calkins, Ed Fast, Maxime Blanchette-Joncas, Gord Johns — 11;

NAYS: — 0.

Motion

Mel Arnold moved, — That the committee adopt testimony from fisheries representatives received by the Standing Committee on Finance in the first half of their May 7, 2020 meeting and that the committee consider that testimony in relation to its study of the Impacts of COVID-19 on Fishing Industry Stakeholders.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Mel Arnold, Jaime Battiste, Terry Beech, Maxime Blanchette-Joncas, Richard Bragdon, Blaine Calkins, Serge Cormier, Ed Fast, Ken Hardie, Gord Johns, Robert J. Morrissey — 11;

NAYS: — 0.

It was agreed, — That the first meeting to be held in July 2020 be dedicated to the study of the state of the Pacific salmon with a focus on the Big Bar landslide, and that the second meeting to be held in July 2020 be dedicated to the study of the state of the Pacific salmon.

At 5:21 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
