On motion of Earl Dreeshen, it was agreed, — That the Committee resume consideration of the motion moved by Luc Berthold on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, which read as follows:
That the Committee continue to hear from witnesses on the study of the official notices of non-compliance from China for exports of Canadian canola seeds; that the next meeting be held as soon as possible; that witnesses at this meeting be farmers and producers directly impacted by the consequences of China’s decision to cease buying Canadian Canola; and, that the Committee report its findings to the House.
After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 9; NAYS: 0.
Questioning of the witnesses resumed.
At 12:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 12:06 p.m., the sitting resumed.
Lucy Sharratt, Gary Hazlewood and Jason McLinton made statements and, with Tom McLellan and Pierre Labonté, answered questions.
At 1:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 1:02 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.
It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the official notices of non-compliance from China for exports of Canadian canola seeds, witnesses be invited to appear on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, and that the Committee’s findings be communicated in a letter addressed to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.
At 1:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
