Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(a) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, January 28, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of initiatives toward a family-friendly House of Commons.

Marc Bosc made a statement and, with Pierre Parent and Benoit Giroux, answered questions.

Motion

Scott Reid moved, — That the Chairperson and federal members of the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments be invited to appear before the Committee before the end of May 2016, to answer all questions relating to:

• their mandate and responsibilities;

• the Report of the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments Transitional Process (January – March 2016) that was submitted to the Prime Minister on March 31, 2016;

• expenses incurred during the period of the report; and

• anticipated future expenses.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: David Christopherson, Scott Reid, Blake Richards, Jamie Schmale — 4;

NAYS: Arnold Chan, David de Burgh Graham, Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Ruby Sahota, Anita Vandenbeld — 5.

On motion of David Christopherson, it was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $15,500, for the study of initiatives toward a family-friendly House of Commons, be adopted.

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
