CANADIANS INVITED TO SHARE THEIR IDEAS REGARDING CANADA’S MANUFACTURING SECTOR

Ottawa, June 23, 2016

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology is undertaking a study on Canada’s manufacturing sector. Canadians are invited to submit briefs no longer than 10 pages. The motion for this study is as follows:

That the committee study and develop recommendations needed for Canada’s small, medium and large manufacturing industry and report back to the House:

(a) identifying the manufacturing industry as a strategic sector for economic develop;

(b) reviewing the causes and consequences of manufacturing job loss;

(c) reviewing ways to improve Canada’s manufacturing sector; and

(d) analyzing the state of industrial innovation across Canada, including

(i) Industry-Academic collaborations,

(ii) Innovation Centres,

(iii) Business Incubators and Accelerators, and

(iv) Innovation Funding Sources, and

(e) proposing solutions that will strengthen the manufacturing sector as well as protect and promote manufacturing employment and training to fill skills shortages in the domestic labour force.
