Today, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance presented, in the House of Commons, the Final Report of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance Regarding Its Consultations in Advance of the 2016 Budget. In this report, the Committee makes 56 recommendations about measures to support economic growth, fiscal sustainability, the “wellness” of Canadians and Canadian businesses, communities, and specific groups of individuals and sectors.

“On behalf of the Committee, I wish to provide my heartfelt thanks to all of the groups and individuals who submitted their thoughts about the priorities that should be included in the forthcoming budget, particularly in light of the very short period of time they had to do so,” said the Honourable Wayne Easter, P.C., M.P. for Malpeque and Chair of the Committee. “That valuable input is an integral part of our pre-budget consultation process, which is a key channel through which Canadians’ top priorities are identified. I urge them to continue their participation in this important process,” concluded Mr. Easter.

The Committee launched these pre-budget consultations on 5 February 2016. From 16–19 February 2016, the Committee heard from 92 invited witnesses on a wide range of federal public policy topics. In addition, 175 written submissions were received from individuals and groups that were not invited to make a presentation to the Committee.
