At 12:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 12:16 p.m., the sitting resumed.
It was agreed, — That the Committee consider a draft report in relation to the study of the Canada Revenue Agency's efforts to combat tax avoidance and evasion, at its meeting on Thursday, June 23, 2016.
It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of pre-budget consultations in advance of the 2017 budget, a proposed budget in the amount of $84,963.00 for the Committee’s travel to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador; Fredericton, New Brunswick; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; and Halifax, Nova Scotia, be adopted, and that the Chair seek approval of these funds as soon as possible.
It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of pre-budget consultations in advance of the 2017 budget, a proposed budget in the amount of $89,138.00 for the Committee’s travel to Kelowna, British Columbia; Edmonton, Alberta; Regina, Saskatchewan; and Winnipeg, Manitoba, be adopted, and that the Chair seek approval of these funds as soon as possible.
It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the pre-budget consultations in advance of the 2017 budget, a proposed budget in the amount of $67,225.00, for the Committee’s travel to Québec and Montréal, Québec; and Windsor and Toronto, Ontario, be adopted, and that the Chair seek approval of these funds as soon as possible.
It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 37,500.00, for the study of the pre-budget consultations in advance of the 2017 budget, be adopted.
Phil McColeman moved, — That the Standing Committee on Finance undertake a comprehensive study of issues surrounding the Canadian residential real estate market;
That the study focus on the impact of the housing market on the Canadian financial system and challenges surrounding access to residential home ownership; and
That the Committee report on its findings and recommendations before the end of February, 2017.
After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 8; NAYS: 1.
At 12:48 p.m. Ron Liepert took the Chair.
Guy Caron moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Finance undertake a study on the benefits and potential impacts of introducing a guaranteed minimum income, and that the Committee report its findings to the House by Friday, February 17, 2017.
Debate arose thereon.
At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
