NEWS RELEASE
ADVANCING
THE WOMEN, PEACE AND SECURITY AGENDA
Ottawa,
March 31, 2016 -
The House of
Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development is
examining Canada’s role in supporting the implementation of the United Nations
Security Council Resolutions on women, peace and security (1325, 1820, 1888, 1889, 1960, 2106, 2122 and 2242). Together, these resolutions necessitate the
protection of women’s rights and women’s meaningful involvement in all efforts
to prevent, resolve and recover from armed conflict.
The
Government of Canada’s current national action plan on women, peace and security will expire on 31
March 2016. The study is therefore seeking to identify
the progress realized to date, and the challenges that must still be addressed,
with the view to developing the Committee’s recommendations on the way forward.
Organizations
and individuals who wish to provide their views and comments to the Committee
are invited to submit a written brief through the Clerk
of the Committee.
Further
information about the Committee’s meetings on women, peace and security is
available on the Committee’s website.
