Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 1, 2018, the Committee resumed its study of migration challenges and opportunities for Canada in the 21st century.

Jean-Nicolas Beuze made a statement and answered questions.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), upon return from the Committee’s travel to Uganda and Tanzania, the Committee continue a comprehensive study of migration challenges and Canada’s opportunities to provide global leadership; that this study examine overseas Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) visa offices that process resettlement applications to identify challenges and opportunities in their environments of operation, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees’ (UNHCR) determination and referral processes, the living conditions and causes of displacement for refugees whom may eventually come to Canada, be that in camps, settlements, or urban settings, and the challenges faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) and the role Canada can play in addressing this form of displacement; that this study be comprised of no fewer than an additional four meetings; that the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship and department officials be present for at least one meeting; and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the government table a comprehensive response thereto.
