House of Commons Standing Committee on International Trade Releases Report on Federal Support for the International Trade Activities of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
Ottawa, June 06, 2019 -
Today, the House of Commons Standing Committee on International Trade presented, in the House of Commons, a report entitled Canada’s Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: Federal Support for Their International Trade Activities.
The report’s four recommendations focus on a “business-friendly” domestic environment, trade agreements and opportunities, existing and desired federal support, and partnerships and collaboration.
“Small and medium-sized enterprises employ most of Canada’s private-sector workforce, and make significant contributions to Canada’s economy,” said the Honourable Mark Eyking, P.C., M.P., Chair of the Committee. “However, these firms face a number of challenges that affect their ability to trade internationally, and to expand such trade.”
Mr. Eyking concluded: “Implementation of the recommendations in the Committee’s report would help Canada’s small and medium-sized enterprises to enhance their international trade activities and maximize their valuable contributions to the country’s economy. Certainly, the Committee hopes that the Government of Canada will give both serious and timely consideration to these recommendations.”
The Committee’s report can be accessed on its website.
