[Recorded by Electronic Apparatus]

  (1530)

[Translation]

    Good afternoon, everyone.

[English]

Welcome, all new members, to this standing committee.

[Translation]

    I see a quorum.

[English]

Therefore, pursuant to the Standing Orders your first duty is to elect a chair for this committee.
I'm now ready to receive motions to that effect.
    Mr. Trottier.

[Translation]

I would like to nominate Pierre-Luc Dusseault as chair of the committee.
Mr. Trottier has nominated Mr. Dusseault as chair.

[English]

    Are there any further nominations?

[Translation]

Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare Pierre-Luc Dusseault duly elected chair of the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates of the House of Commons.
Before he takes the chair, if the committee wishes, we will now proceed to the election of the two vice-chairs.
The first vice-chair must be a member of the government party.

[English]

I'm now prepared to receive motions for the first vice-chair.
    Mr. Komarnicki.
I move that the Honourable Gordon O'Connor be elected first vice-chair of the committee.
We have Mr. Komarnicki who is nominating Mr. O'Connor for the position of first vice-chair.
    Are there any further nominations?

[Translation]

Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare Gordon O'Connor duly elected first vice-chair of the committee.

[English]

Our last task today with regard to elections is the election of the second vice-chair. The second vice-chair must be a member of an opposition party other than the official opposition.
I'm now ready to receive your motions of nomination for that position.
    Mr. Cannan.
I'd like to nominate the Honourable Gerry Byrne. I'll be accepting on his behalf.

[Translation]

Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion that Mr. Byrne be elected second vice-chair in absentia?
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare Mr. Byrne duly elected second vice-chair of the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates of the House of Commons.
I would now like to invite Mr. Dusseault to take the chair.
    Thank you, everyone.
Thank you for electing me chair of the committee. I look forward to working with all the committee members and their staff.
In principle, this was the only item on today's agenda. However, as you have seen, routine motions have been distributed. I am still at the committee's service. We need to figure out whether the committee would like to take care of this business right away or proceed in a different manner.
Mr. Trottier, did you want to take the floor?
Mr. Chair, I think there are two aspects that still need to be discussed in our own caucuses, and some decisions need to be made. So I would like to move a motion to adjourn today's meeting.
We will be able to discuss internal matters at a future meeting.
Mr. Trottier has put forward a motion for us to adjourn this meeting. Is it the committee's pleasure to adopt it?
    (Motion agreed to)
The Chair: I declare the committee meeting adjourned. We will meet again next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
    The meeting is adjourned.
