The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Ron Cannan, Russ Hiebert, Randy Hoback, Laurin Liu, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Marc-André Morin, Erin O'Toole and Massimo Pacetti.

 

Acting Members present: Malcolm Allen for Don Davies and Brian Storseth for Devinder Shory.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst; Pascal Tremblay, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development: Kirsten Hillman, Canada's Chief Negotiator, Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Trade Policy and Negotiations; Nadia Theodore, Director, Trans-Pacific Partnership Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the benefits for Canada of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
 

Kirsten Hillman made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:43 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold an informal meeting with a delegation from the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, on Thursday, April 10, 2014.

 

It was agreed, — That if Bill C-20, Canada-Honduras Economic Growth and Prosperity Act, is referred to the Committee it will commence its study of the bill immediately, and invite officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, and other witnesses to appear before it.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study on the positive effects of the Global Markets Action Plan, released by the Government of Canada on November 27, 2013.

 

At 12:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
