The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Gordon Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ray Boughen, Gordon Brown, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Rick Dykstra, Ted Falk, Irene Mathyssen, Kennedy Stewart and John Weston.

 

Acting Members present: Jay Aspin for Jim Hillyer and Robert Aubin for Pierre Nantel.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Société professionnelle des auteurs et des compositeurs du Québec: Pierre-Daniel Rheault, Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Federation of Musicians: Mark Tetreault, Director of Symphonic Services. Guilde des musiciens et musiciennes du Québec: Luc Fortin, President. North by Northeast (NXNE): Mike Tanner, Director of Operations. Live Nation Canada: Riley O'Connor, Chairman; Ken Craig, Promoter. Ticketmaster Canada: Patti-Anne Tarlton, Chief Operating Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, December 5, 2013, the Committee resumed its review of the Canadian music industry.
 

Pierre-Daniel Rheault, Mark Tetreault and Luc Fortin, by videoconference from Montréal, Québec, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:04 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Mike Tanner, Riley O'Connor and Patti-Anne Tarlton, by videoconference from Dallas, Texas, made statements and, with Ken Craig, answered questions.

 

At 12:57 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:00 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Analysts prepare a summary of witness testimonies to be distributed to Members no later than Thursday, April 17, 2014.

 

At 1:07 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
